Where handmade brooches connect you to an ancient culture.

Persian Garden (باغ ایرانی) is a collection of embroidered brooches inspired by the symbolic landscape of Iranian gardens. The Sarv (سرو) speaks of endurance, the Simurgh (سیمرغ) of wisdom and transformation, the Pomegranate (انار) of renewal.

Wear a piece of an ancient heritage close to your heart.

Tree of life (درخت زندگانی)
$165.00

In Iran, there is a cemetery, a burial ground whose history reaches back centuries into the early Islamic period.

Carved into its old gravestones are symbols of lives, traces of people's crafts, identities, and traditions.

I borrowed these symbols from stone and translated them into thread. Thousands of stitches, made by hand, over long winter nights, to be worn close to the heart.

For this piece, I borrowed a cypress carved beneath an arch. At its root, two birds come together, their bodies forming the trunk of the tree.

The cypress (سرو) has long represented life and endurance in Persian culture. More enigmatic are the birds at its base. It is an unusual composition, and its meaning remains a mystery to me.

From stone to thread.

From memory to something carried on the body.

The Simurgh (سیمرغ)
$275.00

Persian Garden is a collection of embroidered brooches inspired by the symbolic landscape of Iranian gardens. The Sarv (سرو) speaks of endurance, the Simurgh (سیمرغ) of wisdom and transformation, the pomegranate (انار) of renewal.

Simurgh is a mythical bird whose name literally means 'thirty birds' in Farsi language. In the twelfth century, the Sufi poet, Attar of Nishapur tells of a gathering of birds, searching for their sovereign. Guided by the hoopoe, they crossed seven valleys of Quest, Love, Knowledge, Detachment, Unity, Wonderment, and Defeat.

At the journey's end, only thirty birds remained. They discovered that Simurgh was no magical bird waiting to be found. The sovereign they had sought was within them all along.

The Pomegranate (انار)
$235.00

من اناری را می کنم دانه به دل می گویم خوب بود این مردم دانه های دلشان پیدا بود
ساده رنگ، سهراب سپهری

This piece carries a few lines by
Sohrab Sepehri, one of Iran's beloved modern poets:

I see a pomegranate
and think to myself
how good it would be
if the seeds of people's hearts could be seen

Sohrab had a way of looking at the simplest things in nature and finding something deep within them. A pomegranate opened in his hands becomes a thought about people, what if our hearts, like the fruit, could be opened and what we carry inside could be seen?

The hidden becoming visible, one small ruby-red seed at a time.

The autumn Sarv (سرو)
$155.00

The Sarv (سرو), or Cypress, stands eternal in Persian stories. It's a tree of strength, endurance and humility. In my work, the Sarv appears in many forms: the timeless guardian of Iran, over 4,000 years old, the bowed and modest cypress, and even the autumn cypress, dressed in golden hues that nature itself has never known.
